At approximately 6:01 pm Monday, July 21, 2025, Dane County Public Safety Communications (911) notified the Fitchburg Fire Department of a structure fire at 2612 Pheasant Ridge Trail in the City of Fitchburg. 

The first arriving fire personnel confirmed smoke showing in apartment and entered to find a kitchen fire.  

The fire was extinguished, with all surrounding apartment units protected from damage. 

One adult was located and removed in the affected apartment. That adult was transported to a nearby hospital but sustained fatal injuries as a result of the incident. No other injuries to bystanders or first responders were reported. 

Assistance was received from the Fitchburg Police Department, FitchRona EMS, Madison Fire Department, Oregon Fire Department and Verona Fire Department. 

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Fitchburg Fire Department, and the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation – State Fire Marshal’s Office.
