At approximately 3:11 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026, Dane County Public Safety Communications (911) notified the Fitchburg Fire Department of a reported structure fire at 5148 Anton Drive in the City of Fitchburg.

Upon arrival, first responders found no visible smoke or flames. Fire personnel located a small stove fire in one of the units that had already been extinguished by a single sprinkler head from the fire protection system.

No residents were displaced, including those in the affected unit, and all of the residents of the 30 units were able to remain in their homes. No injuries were reported.

The department reminds everyone that grease fires can be extremely dangerous. Never pour water on a grease fire, as it can make the flames spread. Instead, smother the fire with a lid or use a kitchen-rated fire extinguisher.

Incident Type: Motor Vehicle Crash

At approximately 8:50 a.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2025, Dane County Public Safety Communications (911) notified the Fitchburg Fire Department of a motor vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 14 just north of Lacy Road in the City of Fitchburg.

Upon arrival, firefighters found two vehicles in the eastbound lanes with significant damage and two occupants involved. Tragically, one individual sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second individual sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. No other injuries to bystanders or first responders were reported.

Assistance was received from the Fitchburg Police Department and FitchRona EMS. 

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Fitchburg Police Department.

Incident Type: Structure Fire

At approximately 4:37 am Sunday, May 11, 2025, Dane County Public Safety Communications (911) notified the Fitchburg Fire Department of a structure fire at 2547 Richardson Street in the City of Fitchburg. 

The first arriving fire personnel confirmed flames and smoke showing from a 50 x 25 pole barn. 

The fire was successfully contained to the barn, with all surrounding properties protected from damage. 4 horses who were housed in the barn perished as a result of the fire. No other injuries were reported. 

Assistance was received from the Fitchburg Police Department, FitchRona EMS, Madison Fire Department, and Verona Fire Department. 

The origin and cause of the fire is currently under investigation by Fitchburg Fire Investigators; however, no suspicious activity or foul play is suspected at this time. Further details will be provided as they become available.

At approximately 5:27 am Thursday, May 1, 2025, Dane County Public Safety Communications (911) notified the Fitchburg Fire Department of a structure fire at 2798 Endive Drive in the City of Fitchburg. 

The first arriving fire personnel confirmed visible smoke. After investigating, flames started showing through the roof.  

Fire was extinguished. The residents were displaced due to fire and water damage. No injuries were reported. The Red Cross was contacted and is assisting with the residents who were displaced.

Two firefighters were evaluated by paramedics and taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

Assistance was received from the Fitchburg Police Department, FitchRona EMS, Madison Fire Department, Verona Fire Department, Oregon Fire Department and McFarland Fire Department. 

The origin and cause of the fire is currently under investigation by Fitchburg Fire Investigators.
