Fitchrona Rd Reconstruction
Design work is underway for the reconstruction of Fitchrona Rd from Tonto Trail and the Nesbitt Rd roundabout. The project will address flooding issues and enhance bikeability with an off-street trail along the east side of the road, extending north from Lacy Rd to Nesbitt, as well as converting the existing T-intersection to a roundabout. Designs and property acquisition will be completed in 2026, with construction taking place in 2026-2027.

2023 Lacy Rd, Fitchrona Rd to Seminole Hwy Redesign
The 2023 reconstruction of both Lacy Rd and its intersection with Seminole Hwy is complete. The new intersection roundabout and adjacent Badger State Trail crossing have been improved for traffic load and safety, and West Lacy Rd has been rebuilt to better accommodate added neighborhoods and create safe bicycling/pedestrian routes. A flashing beacon was placed at the Badger State Trail crossing of Lacy Rd, and it should be operational in 2025.

Badger State Trail Bridge
McKee Rd construction is completed, and the region’s newest bicycle network feature is open! The Badger State Trail, closed between the Bike Roundabout and Sub-Zero Parkway for much of 2020, was re-opened on September 30th, 2020 featuring a new overpass bridge above McKee Rd. The new bridge, stretching 121 feet and crossing McKee Rd just a half-mile east of the Military Ridge State Trail bridge, was constructed by Wheeler Structures and is now Fitchburg’s third major bicycle bridge, along with the Military Ridge overpass and another bridge taking Capital City Trail users over Fish Hatchery Rd. near Hatchery Hill. This new bridge replaces a flashing beacon that cyclists and pedestrians previously relied on to indicate their presence to oncoming motor vehicles, enhancing safety by reducing interactions between vehicles on McKee Rd and non-vehicular traffic on this major state trail.
