The Fitchburg Stormwater Utility has contracted with ecological services vendors to conduct prescribed burns at 14 locations this spring. Prescribed burns are a safe and effective method for maintaining healthy vegetation in stormwater basins by removing excess thatch, controlling invasive species, and encouraging the growth of deep-rooted native plants. These plants improve water infiltration and help reduce runoff pollution, supporting the health of local waterways.
Burns will take place throughout the spring as weather conditions allow at these locations.
