Fitchburg Partnership Completes BCycle Bike-Share Network Expansion
Fitchburg, WI – September 29, 2025 – The City of Fitchburg, along with partners BCycle, the Fitchburg Chamber Visitor & Business Bureau, and Bike Fitchburg, has completed the second phase of its bike-share network expansion, with substantial funding provided by a Transportation Alternatives Program grant (TAP Grant) through the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
The Fitchburg BCycle network currently consists of 156 docks at 22 stations, spread out across 20 locations around Fitchburg, and the e-bikes in this network allow users to connect to the rest of the regional network that also includes Madison, Monona, and McFarland. Beginning with a 7-station program launch in 2023, this Fitchburg BCycle program team secured over $300,000 in grant funding to expand the network and better connect riders from their homes or hotels to parks, bike trails, retail businesses, workplaces, the City’s civic campus, and other community destinations.
This network of e-bikes, accessed from any mobile phone via BCycle’s free app, has seen over 10,000 checkouts since the beginning of 2024, with over two months remaining in the 2025 season until bikes are removed for the winter in mid-December.
To wrap up another successful Summer of cycling in our community, the Fitchburg Chamber is hosting a “Bike the ‘Burg” wrap party on Wednesday, October 8, from 5pm-7pm, at the Agora Pavilion on E. Cheryl Drive. This event, featuring snacks, games, and music, will recognize the top riders in the Chamber’s “Bike the ‘Burg” summer riding challenge, as well as celebrating the completed BCycle expansion and Fitchburg’s region-leading number of Bicycle-Friendly Businesses.
