Around 10:40 p.m. Thursday, officers from the Fitchburg Police Department responded to an apartment complex in the 2600 block of Post Road for a report of multiple people fighting in the parking lot. During the altercation, it was reported that one of the persons fighting became armed with a handgun and used it to threaten some of the others involved.
Fitchburg officers arrived on scene quickly and were able to contact most of the involved persons at the building. Their investigation led them to a single apartment unit where the armed suspect was believed to be inside. The suspect refused to exit the apartment after numerous requests by officers. A search warrant was then executed at the apartment with assistance from the Dane County Sheriff's Tactical Response Team, at which time the suspect was taken into custody. A firearm was also discovered and seized as part of the search warrant.
Sergio Rodriguez Arias, a 25 year-old Fitchburg resident, was booked into the Dane County Jail on charges of Second Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety While Armed and Disorderly Conduct While Armed. Additional charges may be referred as the investigation continues.
