Fitchburg, WI - There are several known road closures in the City of Fitchburg that will impact morning commuters. These closures include:
Seminole Highway from McKee Road to Dawley Drive. This includes access from Croix Drive.
The intersection of County Highway MM at County Highway B. County Highway B is closed from Lalor Road to County Highway MM. County Highway MM is closed from Murphy Road to Byrne Road.
Both of these closures are due to fallen trees and downed power lines caused by overnight storms. The closures are in effect as Madison Gas & Electric works to clear the roadway as quickly and safely as possible. As a result of the damage, there may be power outages in these areas. We ask morning commuters to avoid these areas until further notice.
The Fitchburg Police Department is also aware of other areas in which fallen trees are obstructing roadways and pedestrian paths, and urges all travelers to proceed with caution and travel safely. While there may not be an immediate public safety presence near these hazards, many of them have been marked overnight by cones, barricades or other measure to alert motorist. We remind you, these markings have been set in place for your safety and we ask you to not proceed past them.
We are actively working with our community partners to clear all obstructions and restore normalcy to the affected areas. In the event that you encounter a hazard and are unsure if it has been reported, contact the Fitchburg Police Department at (608) 270-4300. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
