Early this morning, Fitchburg Police officers responded to a report of shots fired inside an apartment building but, upon further investigation, determined the shots had been fired outside the building. Around 5:15 a.m., officers were dispatched to an apartment building in the 6200 block of Limestone Lane for a report of multiple gunshots. Initial responding officers worked to check the interior of the building for evidence and potential victims before determining the shots originated outside.
Officers eventually located multiple fired shell casings and additional evidence outside of the building. No injuries are known from this incident, and no property damage has been reported.

The area where this incident occurred contains an apartment complex, senior housing, a hotel, and multiple businesses that generate significant traffic.
