On Oct. 21st, 2023 at approximately 10:30pm, a vehicle was observed traveling at a high rate of speed on the W. Beltline Frontage Rd from Bryant Road in the City of Fitchburg. The driver of the vehicle proceeded to operate at a speed of approximately 70 mph in the 30mph zone. At one point, the vehicle crossed over into oncoming traffic almost striking a vehicle head-on.
A Fitchburg Sergeant observed the reckless driving behavior and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle attempted to elude the Sergeant going through a red light at the Frontage Road and Todd Drive. The Driver ultimately stopped on Todd Drive, and was taken into custody without incident. Fitchburg Officers also determined that the driver was impaired.
The driver, Identified as Javier Ponce Ocotl, 18, of Fitchburg, was arrested and processed at the Dane County Jail for the charges of 2nd Degree Reckless Endangering Safety (felony), Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude a Police Officer (felony), and Operating while Intoxicated 1st Offense.
