[ARCHIVED] Armed Robbery Arrest & Search Warrant

FBPD INCIDENT REPORT

Incident Type: Armed Robbery & Search Warrant Arrest

Incident Date: 09/8/2023

Release Date: 09/13/2023

Incident number: FP23-18776

Prepared By: Lt. Edward Hartwick

 Details:

On Friday, September 8, the Fitchburg Police Department, with the assistance of the Madison Police Department SWAT Team, executed a search warrant at a home in the 6800 block of Putnam Road in Madison. The warrant resulted from an investigation into an armed robbery in June at an apartment complex on the west side of Fitchburg. A suspect in the armed robbery, Daniel Ramirez-Macias, 17, was taken into custody at the residence.

The search of the residence resulted in the recovery of four total firearms.

  • Two of the four firearms were handguns modified with “switches”. Switches are a small device that allows a semi-automatic pistol to be fired as an automatic handgun or a machine gun. With one trigger pull, a switch can enable a gun to fire as many as 30 rounds in two seconds.
  • One of the two guns with switches was determined to be a personally manufactured firearm, commonly known as a “ghost gun.” Ghost guns are untraceable firearms that can be assembled with 3D-printed parts at home.
  • One of the firearms was reported as stolen through the City of Madison.

In addition to the firearms, narcotics, including nearly 55 grams of a cocaine/fentanyl mixture, were recovered. Investigators also located evidence from the June armed robbery.

Ramirez-Macias was taken into custody and booked into the Dane County Jail. Today, he was formally charged with armed robbery (party to a crime), four counts of possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent, concealing a stolen firearm, possession with intent to deliver fentanyl, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, two counts of possession of a machine gun, possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of felony bail jumping. Macias-Ramirez has posted a $10,000 cash bail.
