On October 5, 2017 at 1:56 a.m., the Fitchburg Police responded to a weapons violation at the Hyvee grocery store located at 2920 Fitchrona Rd. The suspect attempted to steal several items and was confronted by an employee. The suspect then produced a bladed weapon and threatened the employee with it prior to fleeing the scene.
Officers searched the area for the suspect. A Cottage Grove K-9 officer was also utilized in the search, however, the suspect was not immediately located.
The suspect is described as a black male about 60 years old. He is approximately 5’9” with a slender build. He was last seen wearing a dark blue or black baseball cap, a dark colored jacket, and dark colored pants.
The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information available to be released at this time.
