During the foot chase, the suspect ran toward a nearby fast-food restaurant and stole an unoccupied, running vehicle from the parking lot. Officers attempted to stop the stolen vehicle, but the suspect fled in the vehicle, evading the officers.
A short time later, the suspect abandoned the vehicle nearby. Madison Police Officers, who responded to assist, observed the suspect and initiated a second foot pursuit. Thanks to coordination between the Madison Police Department, the Fitchburg Police Department, and alert community members, who reported the suspect’s location, officers were able to locate the suspect hiding in a boat that had been parked behind a building. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
