Incident Type: Two Wrong-Way Drivers Arrested for OWI

On January 13, 2025, at 1:45 a.m., a Fitchburg Police Officer observed two vehicles traveling the wrong way on US Highway 14 that were entering the Beltline, heading westbound in the eastbound lanes. The officer quickly responded to the situation and, with the assistance of the Dane County Sheriff's Office, stopped both wrong-way drivers near Fish Hatchery Road.
Upon further investigation, both drivers were arrested for operating while intoxicated, with preliminary breath tests showing results at or near .16, which is twice the legal limit of .08. Fortunately, thanks to the officers' prompt action, no accidents or injuries occurred during this extremely dangerous incident.
