Shortly after 6:00 p.m. Thursday, Fitchburg officers responded to the 2800 block of Coho Street for a report of multiple shots fired. Responding officers located casings at the scene but did not locate any property that had been struck. No one has reported any injuries from the gunfire.
Investigators believe a confrontation between two groups outside of an apartment building turned physical and eventually escalated to gunshots.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Fitchburg Police Department at (608)270-4300. Individuals may remain anonymous by contacting Madison Area Crime Stoppers at (608)266-6014 or P3Tips.com. Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest.
Fortunately, no one appears to have been injured during this incident, which occurred in a densely populated neighborhood full of multi-family apartment buildings. Gun violence, no matter where it occurs in our community, is unacceptable and should not be tolerated.
