Details:
Friday afternoon, a 22-year-old Madison man made his initial appearance in Dane County Circuit Court on charges related to a burglary investigation in Fitchburg and additional cases in the City of Madison. Donyell Love was arrested Wednesday by members of the Fitchburg Police Department Special Response Team when they executed a search warrant at a Madison apartment. During the search of the apartment, officers located evidence linking Love to a burglary investigation from September.
On the morning of September 27, 2024, Fitchburg officers responded to an apartment complex in the 6200 block of Limestone Lane to multiple reports of vehicles broken into in the underground parking garage. Officers determined the suspect, later identified as Love, had likely used a tool to shatter windows of vehicles to access and take belongings. At least five vehicles had damaged windows and other unlocked vehicles were entered.
Investigators from the Fitchburg Police Department worked with detectives from the Madison Police Department who were investigating similar incidents. Following a review of evidence collected from multiple cases, Fitchburg investigators were able to tie Love to the September burglary.
Love was charged with one count of Burglary, five counts of Criminal Damage to Property, four counts of Entry to a Locked Vehicle, and two counts of Theft for the September 27, 2024, incident. Love also appeared in court in other cases from the City of Madison.
Fitchburg detectives are continuing to evaluate evidence from a number of similar incidents that have occurred in the City over the last few months. Detectives are also continuing their collaboration with the City of Madison Police Department to investigate similar cases.
