Details:
After Monday’s shots-fired incident that occurred in the 6200 block of Limestone Lane, investigators from the Fitchburg Police Department assessed the evidence and spoke with witnesses to identify a suspect.
On Tuesday, investigators and members of the Fitchburg Police Department Special Response Team located the suspect and attempted to stop him in his vehicle. The suspect fled from officers at a high rate of speed. A short time later, deputies from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office located the suspect vehicle traveling southbound on US 18/151. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle and engaged in a pursuit that traveled into Iowa County.
Following assistance from more agencies including the Blue Mounds, Mt. Horeb, and Verona Police Departments and the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect eventually stopped in Iowa County. The driver, Gerardo Rios Arredondo, was taken into custody without incident. A search of the vehicle yielded a firearm, additional firearm components, and marijuana.
Once Rios Arredondo was in custody, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Team assisted in executing a search warrant at his apartment in the 2100 block of Red Arrow Trail.
As the investigation evolved, detectives were able to link Arredondo to another shots-fired incident and developed probable cause for additional charges. Arredondo was booked into the Dane County Jail on charges of stalking while armed, false imprisonment, disorderly conduct, discharging a firearm within 100 feet of a building, fleeing and eluding, carrying a concealed weapon, and bail jumping.
Rios Arredondo is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Dane County Circuit Court on Friday afternoon.
